This beats the past even when you factor in shipping. If you have a Menards locally (primarily in the midwest) it’s an even slicker deal.
There is some good discussion in the prior thread, and I have a lot of experience with ductless mini split systems and am happy to provide advice!
Some general notes on mini split systems more generally:
- This system will do both heating and cooling, and will use dramatically less energy than a space heater would.
- There is great discussion about heat pumps and DIY installation in the FAQ of the r/heatpumps community on reddit .
- In most states, you do not need to be a licensed HVAC contractor to install one of these systems and can still do it "on the books" by pulling an Owner-Builder permit. For example in California: https://www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers…rvi
ew.aspx - All heat pump systems have a factory charge that corresponds to a certain line length. You only need to add more refrigerant if you have longer lines than what the factory charge is good for.
- You will need a vacuum pump to install this system. These can often be rented from hardware stores or bought cheaply from places like Harbor Freight.
- You will need to install an AC Disconnect and wire it to your electrical panel to be code compliant.

1myro6fm - This system is listed on neither the NEEP Air Source Heat Pump or AHRI Certification directory, meaning that its performance has not been validated by a third party source. This could mean that the efficiency is very poor, but it might be fine. I don’t see any references to a SEER rating , which is the typical way of measuring efficiency for this type of system.
- One way to figure out how big of a system you need is to use a tool like CoolCalc (I am happy to help with this if you need a second set of eyes)
